LAKSHMIPUR, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee today said Alems (Islamic scholars) can play a vital role in bringing positive change to society, as their influence is enormous.

“The Alems, Imams, Khatibs, and Olamas of the country were not spared from the torture and repression of autocratic Sheikh Hasina,” he said while addressing the Imam-Khatib conference held at the hall room of the local model mosque here.

The role of Alems in establishing justice, ensuring peace in society, and working for human welfare is enormous, he said, adding that they should highlight the positive aspects of Islam to eliminate unhappiness, conflict, and confrontation from society.

Calling upon Alems and Imams to join hands with political leaders in building a drug-free society, Anee said that all ongoing reforms in the state or politics will be in vain if society remains polluted.

Among others, Chairman of Shahe-Shahaba Khatib Foundation Shaikh Mufti Shamim Majumder, its secretary general Mufti Sharif Ullah Tareki, former principal of Tumchar Kamil Madrasha Maulana Harun Al Madani and secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Lakshmipur district unit AR Hafiz Ullah, addressed the conference.
