SYLHET, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, central working committee member of Jamaat-e-Islami and Sylhet city Ameer, today described the October 28, 2006 violence as the beginning of a dark chapter in Bangladesh's history.

Speaking at a rally at Court Point in Sylhet, organized under the party's central programme to remember those killed and injured in the 2006 "logi-boitha" incident, he said the country lost its path that day.

"People were beaten to death and their bodies desecrated. Bangladesh went through darkness, and after a long struggle, regained its direction on August 5, 2024," he added.

Sylhet city Jamaat's assistant secretary Zahedur Rahman Chowdhury conducted the rally, which was also addressed by Jamaat's central Majlish-e-Shura member, Sylhet district Ameer, and Sylhet-1 (Metropolitan and Sadar) constituency nominee Mawlana Habibur Rahman.

Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, former Sylhet city Chhatra Shibir president and current Nayeb-e-Ameer of Sylhet city Jamaat, who was seriously injured in the 2006 attack at Bandar Bazar Court Point, also spoke at the event.
