GAIBANDHA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) - Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a Gaibandha-based non-government development organization working across the country, has won the 'Guardian of the Earth' award from the Global Law Thinkers Society.
The organization received the award in recognition of its contribution to development, empowerment, and sustainable change among the hard-to-reach char communities in the northern region of the country.
Executive Chief of GUK Abdus Salam formally received the award at a ceremony held at the international conference hall of Daffodil International University in Dhaka on October 25.
Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Bangladesh Haris bin Haji Othman attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the award to Abdus Salam.
In his remarks, Abdus Salam termed the recognition a testament to GUK's long-standing commitment and dedication to the welfare of char people in the northern region.
He said the recognition would further inspire him and his colleagues to continue their development initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of disadvantaged communities.
Awards were also presented to various organizations and individuals from five countries, including Bangladesh, sources said.
An official of GUK said the organization has been working for over four decades to uplift the ultra-poor, backward, and underprivileged people, including those living in char areas.
