MYMENSINGH, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) - Mymensingh division has achieved the highest typhoid vaccination rate in the country, exceeding 95 percent coverage, according to officials at a consultative workshop of the National Media Institute (NIM) held in the city on Sunday.
Among the districts, Sherpur leads the division with a remarkable 99.10 percent vaccination rate, making it the top-performing district in the nationwide TCV (Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine) campaign.
The workshop, organized at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium of the Zilla Parishad, aimed to ensure active public participation in the typhoid vaccination programmme and to raise awareness among media professionals about the importance and safety of the TCV vaccine.
The event was held under the project “Awareness Promotion Activities for the Development of Children, Adolescents and Women,” implemented by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Around 80 journalists from different media outlets took part in the session, gaining insights into the effectiveness, vaccination schedule, and communication strategies for increasing public awareness of the TCV programmme.
The workshop was chaired by Mymensingh Additional Divisional Commissioner Tahmina Akhter, while Dr. Mohammad Altaf-ul-Alam, Additional Secretary and Project Director of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, attended as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Altaf-ul-Alam emphasized the crucial role of the media in safeguarding public health.
“The TCV vaccination programmme is a timely initiative to protect children and adolescents from typhoid. Without active media cooperation, this vital message cannot reach every corner of society,” he said.
In his welcome address, Muhammad Hiruzzaman, Director General of the National Media Institute urged journalists to play a conscious and responsible role in making the national vaccination campaign a success.
Tahmina Akhter highlighted the media’s contribution to previous successful health campaigns.
“The role of the media in eradicating diseases like polio and cholera is undeniable. I believe strong media participation will make the TCV vaccination drive another national success,” she said.
Additional Joint Secretary Md. Altaf Hossain, Director (Training) of NIM Dr. Md. Maruf Nawaz, Director (Health) of Mymensingh Division Dr. Pradeep Kumar Saha, District Information Officer Mir Akram, UNICEF Chief Field Officer Md. Omar Faruk, and WHO Coordinator Dr. Nusrat Azrin Mohsin were present.
The event was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Director and Workshop Director Sumona Parveen, along with Deputy Director Irin Sultana and Assistant Directors Nafis Ahmed and Tanjim Tamanna.
