NAOGAON, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) - Two persons were killed and four others injured as a cattle-laden indigenous vehicle, locally known as bhutbhuti, and a motorcycle lost control and fell into a roadside ditch in Dhamoirhat upazila of the district this morning.
The tragic accident occurred on the Biharipara bypass road in the upazila.
Witnesses and police said several cattle traders were going to Joypurhat cattle market through the Biharipara-Piraldanga bypass road of the Najipur-Joypurhat highway.
When the bhutbhuti driver tried to give way to a motorcycle near the double bridge area of Taljhari, both the vehicles lost control and overturned, falling into a paddy field beside the road.
The bhutbhuti driver, Masudur Rahman Mowla, 35, son of Joydul Islam of Aranagar village, and Md. Bhuttu, 40, son of Nazim Uddin of the same village, died on the spot.
Being informed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhamoirhat Police Station Imam Zafar, along with other police personnel and a team from the Fire Service, rushed to the spot and rescued the injured with the help of locals.
The injured were sent to Dhamoirhat Upazila Health Complex.
The injured were identified as Jihad, 25, son of Mukul Hossain of Aranagar village, Zaidul, 55, son of late Kofil Uddin of Fatepur village, Nazim Uddin, 70, son of late Asir Uddin of Lakkhanpara village, and Selim Reza, 30, son of Zahurul Islam of Dinajpur.
Seriously injured Selim and Nazim were later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for better treatment.
The Officer-in-Charge said as the two died after losing control of their own vehicle and no complaint was lodged, the bodies were handed over to their families.
