CHUADANGA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - A shopkeeper in Chuadanga was fined Taka 30,000 today for preserving stale ingredients used in sweet production and for failing to produce a valid health certificate.
The Directorate of National Consumers' Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the drive in Dashami and Damurhuda markets under Damurhuda upazila from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Mamunul Hasan, assistant director of the DNCRP Chuadanga district office, led the operation, which monitored several sweet shops, bakeries, and diesel-mobile shops in the area.
During the drive, a sweet shop named M/s Mishti Bari, owned by Saddam Hossain, was fined Taka 30,000 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, for storing and reusing stale sweets, and for keeping sweets along with fish and meat in the same refrigerator, without possessing a valid health certificate.
The DNCRP officials also instructed the concerned business establishments to update their price lists, obtain necessary certificates from the authorities, and maintain hygienic standards in their operations.
Later, the stale sweets and other ingredients seized from the shop were destroyed.
Damurhuda Sanitary Inspector Md Niamat Ali, CAB representative Md Rafiqul Islam, and members of the police were present during the operation.
