RANGPUR, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - Experts at a workshop today said that
formulating a cluster-based development plan is crucial to develop Rangpur,
one of the country's most important cities, as a tolerant, planned and
sustainable nodal city.
Through this plan, priority projects will be determined for the construction
of city roads, sanitation, drainage, water supply, market development, and
environment-friendly infrastructure.
They viewed this at the event on "Cluster Development Plan including Capital
Investment Plan and City Resilience Action Plan", held at Rangpur City
Corporation (RpCC) hall room under the Resilient Urban and Territorial
Development Project.
RpCC Administrator and Joint Secretary Mohd Ashraful Islam presided over the
workshop, organised by RpCC with the assistance of the World Bank (WB) and
implemented by the Local Government and Engineering Department.
Gender expert Sajeda Begum, project municipal design engineer Mizanur Rahman,
urban planning expert Abdur Rakib Khan, architect Farhana Islam, social
management expert MTS Mehmood, environmental expert Al Amin, RpCC's Revenue
Officer Mousumi Afrin and Superintending Engineer Azam Ali, addressed the
event.
Members of the city-level Coordination Committee, project technical experts,
and relevant consultants were present at the workshop.
The Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project will be implemented
in six city corporations of the country, including Rangpur City Corporation,
which will play an important role in future urban development and investment
plans.
After implementation of the project, Rangpur will be transformed into a well-
planned smart and modern city where all civic amenities, a clean environment
and income opportunities will be ensured so that the quality of citizen's
life will improve, the speakers said.
They forwarded various suggestions and stressed on maintaining the geo-
natural environment of Rangpur city, preventing unplanned urbanization,
development of tourism industry and ensuring better citizen life.
The esteemed plan will help to determine and conserve land and its status for
public and private organisations, residential and commercial areas, nature of
the air, water, rail, road and highway traffic, preservation and supply of
water and sewage removal.
The RpCC Administrator sought cooptation of all concerned to build the
Rangpur city a well-planned, eco-friendly, modern, tolerant and sustainable
nodal city as a driver of growth and recovery to attain resilient urban
economies.
