About 49 lakh children to get typhoid vaccines in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) – Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam here today said about 49-lakh children, aged nine months to 15 years, will be administered typhoid vaccines in Rangpur division during the month-long campaign.
 
“It is crucial to protect the children’s health. Typhoid fever can be prevented by taking a single dose of typhoid vaccine,” he said while inaugurating the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) campaign in Rangpur division at Zila School ground as the chief guest.

The Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in collaboration with UNICEF is conducting the campaign in all eight districts of the division as part of the nationwide program from October 12 to November 13 under the EPI programme.

Referring to the current progress of Rangpur division in vaccination registration, the Divisional Commissioner said that so far, 15 lakh children have been registered in this division for typhoid vaccinations, which is 31 percent of the target. 

“To get a vaccination certificate, everyone should give importance to vaccination registration. This certificate can be useful for any need in the future,” he said.

He called on all concerned to play a responsible role in making the typhoid vaccination campaign a success and ensuring vaccination of all children to increase their immunity and avoid future health risks. 

During his speech as special guest, Additional Secretary of the DGHS Md Huzur Ali said that people get infected with typhoid fever through consuming contaminated water and unhealthy food. 

“Children are more prone to this disease and the statistics published in recent years show that children under the age of 15 are more likely to get infected with this disease,” he said. 
 
He called on everyone to come forward to implement the typhoid vaccination programme to protect health of children.

Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam, Director (Administration) of the DGHS Dr ABM Abu Hanif, its Director Dr Md Joynal Abedin Tito, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Gausul Azim Chowdhury, UNICEF Rangpur and Rajshahi Divisional Chief AH Towfique Ahmed, among others, were present.
