RANGPUR, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Md Anisur Rahman Laku, member-secretary of Rangpur district BNP, passed away early Wednesday morning following a massive cardiac arrest. He was 53.
Laku suffered the fatal heart attack at Sherpur point in Bogura on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway while returning from Dhaka in a private vehicle. He was accompanied by Md Saiful Islam, convener of Rangpur district BNP, who immediately rushed him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH).
Despite efforts by doctors, Laku breathed his last while receiving treatment around 7:10 am. His body was later brought to his residence in Nurpur area of Rangpur city.
Laku and Saiful Islam had travelled to Dhaka to invite central BNP leaders to attend the upcoming Rangpur district BNP conference, scheduled for October 14.
A widely respected and popular figure in Rangpur's political circles, Laku was known for his clean image and long-standing commitment to the BNP.
He previously served in various leadership roles including joint general secretary and organizing secretary of Metropolitan BNP, general secretary of the district Jubo Dal, central assistant organizing secretary of Jubo Dal and president of Rangpur district Chhatra Dal.
Laku is survived by his wife and two daughters.
News of his sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom among the local political collegaues. Hundreds of party workers, supporters, political leaders from various parties, socio-cultural activists and residents have been gathering at his Nurpur residence to pay their respects.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held after Asr prayers at Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah Maidan, Senior joint convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Md Shahidul Islam Miju told BSS.
The last one will be held at the Nurpur Waqf Mosque ground near his home following Maghrib prayers. Later, he will be laid to rest beside the graves of his parents at the Nurpur Waqf Mosque graveyard.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, Joint Organizing Secretaries Abdul Khaleque and Md Aminul Islam, among others, expressed deep sorrow at his death.
