5 JMB operatives with explosives held in Nilphamari

RANGPUR, Dec 4, 2021 (BSS) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested five operatives of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) with huge explosives, bombs and arms from Majhpara village under Sadar upazila of Nilphamari district.

Director, Legal and Media Wing of the RAB Commander Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the information while addressing a press briefing at RAB-13 Battalion Headquarters here this afternoon.

“Acting on secret information, the intelligence unit of the RAB and RAB-13 conducted a joint drive at the village from last midnight to 11 am today,” he said.

The arrested militants include Rangpur Regional Chief of the Military Wing of JMB Ahidul Islam alias Ahid alias Polash, 26, of Uttar Mushrat Kukhapara village under Sadar upazila Upazila of Nilphamari district.

The other four militants are Md. Wahed Ali alias Abdur Rahman, 30, of Paschim Kuchiyamour Pathanpara village, Abdullah Al Mamun alias Dr. Shuja, 26, of Dakshin Balapara village, Md. Zahidul Islam alias Zahid alias Zobayer, 27, of Uttar Mushrat Kukhapara village and Md. Nur Amin alias Sabuz, 26, of Sonaroy Katcharipara village under Sadar Upazila of Nilphamari district.

“The elite force seized an improvised explosive device (IED), huge raw materials and chemicals for making bombs, one pistol with a magazine and five rounds of bullet and other goods from the possessions of the arrested militants,” Moin said.

During primary interrogation, the detainees confessed that they had been involved in militant activities of JMB and provided some sensational information.

They were conducting militant activities under the Military Wing of JMB in guise of working in different professions.

Ahidul Islam joined JMB in 2015, took ‘Bayaat’ from Rangpur regional Ameer of JMB and was conducting activities of the Military Wing of JMB in Rangpur region. He has been working as a quality checker at a toy producing factory.

“The other four arrested persons joined the militant outfit through Ahidul Islam two to three years back,” Moin said.

The arrested militants admitted that they had been involved in making IED and were preparing to conduct subversive activities.

They got training on preparing bombs following various web pages. The house of Ahidul Islam caught fire following a bomb explosion while they were making IED there two to three months ago.

“They were making bombs to snatch away jailed top JMB militants by conducting attacks on law enforcement agencies on their way to court and from the jail and destabilise the country by carrying out attacks on important and Key Point Installations (KPIs),” Moin said.

The detainees made bombs recently getting online direction of the JMB Amir of Rangpur region and kept those at the house of the militant Sharif for several days and included 20-25 people of different classes and professions in Rangpur region in the militant outfit.

However, Sharif managed to escape from his house when the elite force conducted a raid there.

Later, the bomb disposal unit of RAB-13 defused the seized IED at a nearby place.

“The process of taking legal actions against the arrested militants is progressing,” Moin added.
