COX'S BAZAR, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust today distributed cheques worth Taka 20.50 lakh to 24 journalists of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Rangamati.
Managing Director of Journalists Welfare Trust Muhammad Abdullah distributed the cheques among the journalists as the chief guest at a function held at the ATM Zafar Alam Conference Room of the Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s office this morning.
Muhammad Abdullah said that during the tenure of the current government, the Journalists Welfare Trust has provided Taka 2.90 crore as financial assistance to indigent journalists.
This assistance will continue in the future, he said, adding that the media is enjoying greater freedom than ever before.
“We should take this opportunity to prevent the spread of misinformation. Journalists should play a more responsible role in presenting objective news in this era of free journalism,” he said.
Muhammad Abdullah said that it has been decided to provide fellowships to journalists every year. Work is underway to bring insolvent senior journalists under the monthly allowance programme.
The Journalists' Welfare Trust has taken the initiative to formulate policies in this regard. In addition, the Welfare Trust has taken multifaceted steps for the financial security, health care and overall welfare of journalists, including providing scholarships to talented children of journalists.
Cox's Bazar Acting Deputy Commissioner Nizam Uddin Ahmed presided over the function.
It was addressed, among others, by District Information Officer Abdus Sattar, BFUJ Acting President Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, Cox's Bazar Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman and Cox's Bazar Journalists' Union President Nurul Islam Helali.
Senior government officials and leaders of various journalist organizations were present at the time.
