Durga Puja to be celebrated at 640 mandaps in Barishal

BARISHAL, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated at 640 mandaps in 10 upazilas and city corporation of the district this year. 

Idols makers at different puja mandaps of the district are passing busy time as Sharadiya Durga Puja is only a few days away.

Law enforcement agencies are working to ensure the smooth celebration of the festival. 

Durga Puja will be celebrated at 39 public and 6 private puja mandaps in the city corporation area.

In addition, the festival will be celebrated at 22 mandaps in Sadar upazila, 161 in Agailjhara, 120 in Ujirpur, 84 in Gournadi, 74 in Bakerganj, 59 in Banaripara, 24 in Mehendiganj, 24 in Babuganj, 12 in Muladi and 15 in Hijla upazila.

Barisal Metropolitan Puja Celebration Unity Font Convener Sameer Das and Member Secretary Palash Chandra Debnath told BSS that extensive preparations are underway to celebrate Durga Puja in a joyful and festive atmosphere. 

In order to ensure overall security, the presence of volunteers at each mandap has been ensured by the law enforcement agencies as well as the Puja Celebration Council. 

In addition, 5 observer teams consisting of 10 to 13 members have been formed by the Metropolitan Puja Celebration Parishad. 

District Puja Celebration Parishad President Manik Lal Mukherjee told BSS that everyone has been requested to celebrate Durga Puja by following the guidelines of the Bangladesh Central Puja Celebration Parishad. 
On the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja celebration, a preparatory meeting was held recently at the Deputy Commissioner office's conference room.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hossain presided over the meeting.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Lucy Kanta Hajong, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Palash Kanti Nath, representatives from all law enforcement agencies, leaders of upazila, district and metropolitan puja celebration committees, representatives from political and social organizations were present. 

The meeting discussed and decided to celebrate Durga Puja with due dignity and religious fervor. To maintain law and order at each mandaps, it was decided to appoint its own security personnel, ensure security with the help of police and Ansar forces. 

Besides, round-the-clock control rooms and mobile observation teams will work at the district and upazila levels.
