SYLHET, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - Sylhet Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Sarwar Alam today expressed optimism that land acquisition for the Dhaka-Sylhet four-lane highway project will be finalized within the next three months.
"The construction of the Dhaka-Sylhet four-lane highway has been delayed due to land acquisition issues in the Sylhet section. I hope the land acquisition process will be completed within the next two to three months," the DC said while speaking to the media during a visit to the Sylhet Central Bus Terminal.
He added that utility services, including electricity and gas lines, have already been relocated along the proposed route. "We expect that construction work will commence within the next five to six months," he said.
The four-lane Dhaka-Sylhet highway project, with an estimated cost of nearly Tk 17,000 crore, was initiated in 2021 and is expected to be completed by 2026.
According to project plans, a total of 829.83 acres of land across seven districts are required for the highway construction.
