Of the total, 92 mandaps will be erected in Sadar Upazila, 128 in Sundarganj Upazila, 133 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 107 in Sadullapur Upazila, 56 in Palashbari Upazila, 53 in Shaghata Upazila, and 16 in Fulchhari Upazila of the district, he said.
The number of puja mandaps has increased by 24 this year, he also said.
The five-day long puja will begin from September 27 and conclude on October 2 through the immersion of idols at different water bodies including canals, ponds and rivers, he added.
In reply to a query, Principal Saha said preparations for holding Durga Puja are progressing fast throughout the district as the commencement of the annual event draws nearer.
Like the previous years, a preparatory meeting between the district administration and Puja Utjapon Parishad leaders was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here on Monday, he also said.
In the meeting many decisions were made to hold the festival peacefully.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Nishat Angella said adequate measures would be taken to help the Hindu community of the district celebrate the festival with much enthusiasm and religious fervor.
Police, Ansar, VDP members and Gram Police will be deployed at each puja mandap and the elite force RAB will also patrol the roads to ensure smooth celebration, the SP added.
Stern and lawful actions will be taken against anyone involved in creating trouble during the puja, the SP concluded.
