JASHORE, Sept 15, 2025 (BSS) - At least three people, including a police official and a former leader of Swechchhasebak Dal, were killed when a passenger bus collided with a bamboo-loaded truck in the Bangura Bazar area early Monday.
The deceased were identified as former assistant general secretary of Swechchhasebak Dal, M Zafar Ali, 45, son of Mujid Hawlader of Baro Bekutia village in Jashore Sadar upazila; police sub-inspector Nikkon Addoyo, 35, son of Nishikanta Addoyo of Chatiantala area in Bagharpara upazila; and Akhter Hossain, 47, son of Ahmed Ali of Bashundia area in Sadar upazila.
Tularampur Highway Police said the accident occurred when a bamboo-loaded truck was stationary at Bangura Bazar on the Jashore-Narail highway, and a Jashore-bound Narail Express passenger bus from Dhaka lost control and hit the rear of the truck.
After the accident, bus passenger Akhter Hossain died on the spot. Local residents rushed Zafar Ali and Nikkon Addoyo to Jashore General Hospital in critical condition, where Zafar Ali was pronounced dead. Nikkon Addoyo later died at Narail while being transferred to Dhaka.
The bodies of Zafar Ali and Akhter Hossain have been kept at Jashore General Hospital, while the body of the police official has been kept in Narail, said Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Sekandar Ali of Tularampur Highway Police Station.
The bodies will be handed over to their relatives after autopsy, he added.
