PATUAKHALI- Sept 14, 2025 (BSS) – In a joint operation, 12 fishermen were detained yesterday (Sunday) afternoon in Mahipur coastal area in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district with illegal artisanal trawling boats and behundi nets.

“On a tip-off, the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries conducted the drive jointly and detained 12 fishermen from Kuakata estuary along the Bay of  Bengal,” said a press release today signed by Coast Guard media officer, Lieutenant Commander Siam Ul Haque .
   
 During the drive, 2 artisanal boats and 10 behundi nets worth around 50 lakh were seized with the fishermen, it added.
  
The seized boats and nets were handed over to Mahipur Police Station for legal action.
