DINAJPUR, Sept 14, 2025 (BSS) - Wheat and Maize Research Institute in Dinajpur today organised a day-long workshop on wheat variety development and expansion through speed breeding method.
This workshop titled "Super-fast wheat variety development and expansion through speed breeding method" was held at Nashipur Wheat and Maize Research Institute in Sadar upazila from 11 am to 3:30 pm with the funding of the Super-fast wheat variety development and expansion programme in Bangladesh.
Additional Secretary of the Research Sub-Division of the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Abu Zubair Hossain Bablu was present as the chief guest.
In his speech, he said that wheat cultivation should be promoted as a cultivable crop among the farmers of the country through the newly invented speed breeding method of Dinajpur Wheat and Maize Research Institute.
Farmers will be able to achieve more yield with this newly invented wheat cultivation, he said.
He called on all concerned to promote wheat cultivation by motivating farmers on this issue.
In the workshop, Director General of Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute Dinajpur Dr Salahuddin Ahmed presided over the programme.
Dr. Abdul Hakim, Director of the Programme for Development and Expansion of Ultra-Fast Wheat Varieties through Speed Breeding Method in Bangladesh presented a paper on the success of newly invented wheat.
Dr. Md. Mahfuz Razzak, Director of Planning, Training and Technology Transfer, BWMRI, was present at the workshop. Scientists, officials and employees of various agricultural and research institutions of the Wheat and Maize Research Institute and 30 farmers participated in the workshop.
Before the workshop started, the chief guest and other guests visited the seed storage of this institution, various scientific equipment and various food products made in Dinajpur.
