KHULNA, Sept 8, 2020 (BSS) - A woman was allegedly beaten to death following
a quarrel over a land [paddy field] dispute in Dacope upazila here on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Rekha Rani Mondal, 42, a resident of Gunari
village under Sutarkhali Union of the upazila.

According to local Union Parishad member Murari Halder, the incident took
place around 9:30 am when Rekha's calf entered the paddy field of one Milon
Goldar.

Milon locked into an altercation with Rekha while she tried to drive the calf
away from his paddy field. He allegedly punched and kicked Rekha
indiscriminately, leaving her critically injured.

Rekha's husband Bishnupada Mondal rushed to the spot and found her bleeding
from the nose and lying unconscious. She died on the spot.

When Bishnupada protested, Milon and his associates allegedly assaulted him
as well. Hearing his scream, locals rushed to the scene, but the accused
managed to flee.

Villagers said the killing was rooted in a longstanding land dispute between
the families.

Confirming the incident, Dakop Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Sirajul
