CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - A mentally imbalanced Bangladeshi youth Zakir Hossain was returned to his homeland by the Indian border forces (BSF) after fifteen months.
Zakir, son of Amir Ali of Kayempur Begpur village of Radhanagar union went missing from Gomostapur upazila of the district on June 5, 2024.
The BSF handed over Zakir, 28, to the BGB through a flag meeting at Singnagar border of Shibganj upazila of the district on Sunday evening.
Zakir's parents, brother and relatives were present at the time.
According to BGB and police sources, the flag meeting was held at the company commander level between the Masudpur company of Shibganj under the Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) and the Shobhapur camp of the 71 BSF Battalion on the evening of September 7 (Sunday).
Despite searching in various places, his family was unable to find him.
On the night of September 5, West Bengal's Vaishnavpur police arrested him.
Hearing the incident, 53 BGB contacted the BSF and requested to return him after confirming Zakir's identity.
In continuation of this, Zakir was brought back to Bangladesh on Sunday evening in the presence of BGB, BSF, Shibganj and Gomostapur police stations and family members.
53 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mostafizur Rahman said that as soon as the missing Bangladeshi youth was found, he was brought back through rapid communication.
Wadud Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gomostapur police station, said that Zakir’s family was given his complete custody.
Shibganj Police Station OC Golam Kibria said Zakir was handed over to Bangladesh Police in the presence of Indian police, BGB-BSF and family.
