Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh 54th death anniversary observed in Narail

NARAIL, Sept 5, 2025, (BSS)- The 54th death anniversary of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh was observed at Nur Mohammad Nagar in Chandibarpur union of the district today. 

Narail district administration organised various programmes to mark the day.

The programme began with placing of floral wreaths at the Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh portrait. Besides Rally, Guard of Honour, Qurankhani, Doa Mahfil and discussion meeting on the life of Nur Mohammad Sheikh were held in the Nur Mohammad Sheikh Memorial Museum and Library auditorium at Nur Mohammad Nagar, which was earlier known as Mahiskhola.

Mahishkhola, where Nur Mohammad Sheikh was born, was named after him in his honour under Chandibarpur union in Narail sadar upazila of the district.

Deputy Commissioner of Narail Sharmin Akhter Jahanwas present in the programmes and discussion meeting as the chief guest while Deputy Director of Local Government at DC's Office Julia Sukaina and Additional Police Super (ASP) Nur-E Alom Siddique were present on the occasion as special guests.

Nur Mohammad Sheikh was born on February 26 in 1936 at Mahishkhola village (present name Nur Mohammad Nagar) in Narail sadar upazila. He joined the then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), which is now Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on February 26,1959.

Later, he joined the Independence War in 1971. He was killed on September 5, 1971 at Goalhati in Jashore by the then Pakistan army.
