12 lawyers sent to jail in Barguna for damaging BNP office

BARGUNA, Sept 02, 2025(BSS) -A court here today sent 12 pro-Awami Laegue lawyers of Barguna Bar Association to jail for their alleged involvement in damaging local BNP office in 2023.

Barguna District and Sessions Judge Saifur Rahman passed the order rejecting their bail petitions when they appeared before the court and sought bails in the case a case filed with Sadar Thana.

The lawyers who were sent to jail are - former president of Barguna Bar Association Mahbubul Bari, Mojibor Rahman, Imran Hossain, M Mofizul Haque, Saiful Islam, Amirul Islam, Abdur Rahman, Humayun Kabir, Nurul Islam, Humayun Kabir Poltu, Md Mamun Molla and Junayed Juwel. All the lawyers are supporters of Awami League.  

One Noimul Islam, son of former general secretary of district BNP late S M Nazrul Islam, filed the case on April 30 this year accusing 158 people, including these lawyers. He lodged the case under the Special Powers Act and Explosive Substance Act.

Noimul Islam alleged that the accused persons on March 17 in 2023 brought out a procession and attacked the district BNP office. They damaged the furniture and electronic instruments of the office and set fire to it. They also exploded a number of crude bombs in and out of the office at that time.

The complainant also accused a leader of Jatiyatabadi Sheschhasebok Dal of Sadar Upazila unit Sohag Mridha in the case that had created an adverse reaction among the local BNP leaders.

State counsel Nurul Amin said that the detained lawyers appeared before the court and prayed for bail but the court ordered to send them to jail rejecting their bail petitions.
