MYMENSINGH, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - Human rights organization Odhikar today formed a human chain at Mymensingh Press Club here to observe the Day for the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.

Organization's district coordinator journalist Abdul Qayyum hosted it after a rally on CK Ghosh Road in the city this morning.

Enforced disappearances victims narrated their horrific experiences in the human chain.

They said fascist Sheikh Hasina, as part of a 'militant' drama based on her own ideology, used the law enforcers to torture them for months after the disappearances.

Although that drama ended with the fall of Hasina, the suffering did not end as they are burdened by the false cases filed at that time, they said.

Rashed, a victim of disappearance, said "he was abducted and forced to confess that he is militant."

"When we did not agree, one after another, cases were filed against us under the robbery and anti-terrorism laws and sent to jail. The cases are still ongoing today. Yet we are ordinary people, working in agriculture field".

Former president of the District Bar Association Advocate Nurul Haque said those involved in creating this 'militant drama' need to be brought to justice.

President of the Journalists Union of Mymensingh M Ayub Ali said during the 16-year-long authoritarian government, political opponents, dissidents and active voices of civil society have been disappeared, landing them in illegal detention centers and secret prisons in the country.

Member of the District Coordination Committee of the National Citizens Party (NCP), Adv. ATM Mahbub ul Alam, said during Sheikh Hasina's regime, attempts were made to eliminate opposition politics through disappearances.

Mymensingh Metropolitan BNP Joint Convener Advocate Hannan Khan said legal and constitutional protection must be ensured so that disappearances never happen again in this country.

July Revolutionary Alliance Mymensingh District Joint Convener Md. Mazharul Islam, Mymensingh Metropolitan BNP Joint Convener AKM Mahbubul Alam, Advocate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, journalists Aman Ullah Akand Jahangir, Abdul Awal, Abdullah Al Mamun, Saiful Islam Tarafdar, human rights activists Tajbi Ul Hosna, Delwar Hossain Rajib, Bakiul Islam, Ripon Mia, among others, were present at the human chain.
