DHAKA, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - In the Narayanganj Zila Ainjibi Samity (Bar) election, the BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum's panel led by Advocate Sarker Humayun Kabir and Advocate HM Anwar Pradhan achieved a sweeping victory.
The daylong voting was held on Thursday in a festive and vibrant atmosphere, while the results were announced around 12:30 am.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Abdul Bari Bhuiyan said that out of the 17 posts contested, the Sarker Humayun-Anwar panel won 16.
Advocate Afroza Jahan, the sole candidate from the Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Lawyers' Council, won the lone seat as an executive member.
According to the official results, Advocate Sarker Humayun Kabir was elected president, bagging 600 votes while Advocate HM Anwar Pradhan secured the post of general secretary with the highest number of 718 votes.
Other elected candidates include Advocate Kazi Abdul Gaffar as senior vice-president (697 votes), Advocate Saddam Hossain as vice-president (555 votes), Advocate Omar Faruk Noyon as joint general secretary (675 votes), Advocate Shahazada Dewan as treasurer (755 votes), Advocate Main Uddin Reza as hospitality secretary (797 votes), Advocate Habibur Rahman as library secretary (590 votes), Advocate Aminul Islam as sports secretary (645 votes), Advocate Sarwar Jahan as literature and cultural secretary (572 votes), Advocate Rajib Mondol as social welfare secretary (600 votes) and Advocate Mamun Mahmud Miah as law and human rights secretary (585 votes).
Besides, Advocate Dewan Ashraful Islam received 734 votes, Advocate Fatema Akter Sweety received 697 votes, Advocate Abu Raihan got 694 votes and Advocate Tehsin Hasan Dipu received 574 votes.
Jamaat-backed Advocate Afroza Jahan won her seat with 523 votes.
As a result, the Sarker Humayun-Anwar panel clinched a landslide victory with
a 16-1 margin.
Apart from the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami panels, another faction of pro-BNP lawyers also participated in the election by announcing a separate panel.
Following this development, several members of the Reza-Galib panel were expelled from the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum.
Out of a total of 1,176 registered voters, 1,053 votes were cast in the election.
