THAKURGAON, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) – A workshop on climate-resilient action planning was held at the Thakurgaon Municipality Hall today.
Organized under the Urban Area Development Project, the event was hosted by Thakurgaon Municipality and supported by funding from the World Bank.
Md Mofiz Uddin Bablu, Sub-Project Officer of the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project (RUTDP) and Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), attended the workshop as the chief guest.
Presided over by Municipal Administrator Sardar Mustafa Shahin, the event was attended by Mirza Faisal Amin, former mayor of Thakurgaon Municipality, as the guest of honor.
Other notable attendees included former municipal councillor and panel mayor Jahangir Alam, Bangladesh Journalist Development Organization (Thakurgaon district branch) general secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, former municipal engineer Belal Hossain and women leaders Foratun Nahar Paris and Lovely Begum.
Municipal officials and project personnel including Chief Executive Officer Md. Rakibuzzaman, Urban Planner Abdur Rakib Khan, Saifur Rahman Rajan, LGED Gender Specialist Sajeda Begum, Executive Engineer Md. Rais Uddin, Executive Officer Mojibur Rahman and Assistant Engineer SM Nahid Hasan were present .
During the discussions, speakers highlighted that the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project is a significant national initiative, jointly funded by the Government of Bangladesh and the World Bank.
Designed to enhance climate resilience in urban areas, the six-year project is being implemented by the LGED under the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, they said, adding that the project is scheduled for completion by June, 2030.
Participants emphasized the importance of proactive urban planning and resilient infrastructure to mitigate the impacts of climate change, especially in rapidly urbanizing regions like Thakurgaon.
