JHENAIDAH, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with five lakh four thousand (5,04,000) fake Indian rupees from the Khosalpur border area under Maheshpur upazila of the district yesterday evening.

According to a press release issued by BGB-58 Battalion, the arrested was identified as Oliar Sheikh, 37, son of Shamsul Haque of Beshargati village in Bagerhat Sadar upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team conducted a raid near border pillar 60/105 and detained Oliar Sheikh with the counterfeit currency. At the time of arrest, his five-year-old son Aman Sheikh was also with him.

The release added that Oliar Sheikh had been living in Bihar, India since 2014, where he worked as a tailor. Since 2022, he had allegedly been collecting Indian currency notes from a man named Maruf, also a resident of Bagerhat Sadar upazila.

On Tuesday, Oliar entered the Bangladesh-India border area and received the fake Indian rupees from Maruf in exchange for Taka 60,000. He was arrested by the BGB while attempting to re-enter India with the counterfeit currency.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station Sajjadur Rahman confirmed the incident to BSS, saying that a case has been filed in this connection.

Oliar Sheikh will be produced before the court, while his infant son Aman Sheikh will be handed over to the family's custody on humanitarian grounds, the OC added.
