Seven get life term in Shahjadpur murder case

SIRAJGANJ, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced seven people to life imprisonment in a murder case that took place in Shahjadpur upazila of the district in 2012.

The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each, in default, they were sentenced to two more months in jail.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Kaniz Fatema announced the verdict.

The accused are - Md Waz Ali, Md Kunnu, Md Hamid, Md Arshed Ali, Md Abdus Samad, Md Iddris Ali and Md Selim Reza of Potazia village of Shahjadpur upazila.

Additional Public Prosecutor Md. Golam Sarwar Khan said that after a long hearing, the court sentenced seven people to life imprisonment. In addition, eight other accused were given rigorous imprisonment for various terms, he added.

The case statement stated that due to a long-standing dispute between the defendants and the plaintiff Osman Gani, the defendants formed a group and attacked his family on the morning of August 23, 2012. During this time, his son, Sabbir Hossain, was severely injured by being beaten with sharp weapons and sticks. He later died on the way to Bogra Hospital.
