National Fisheries Week-2025 begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - National Fisheries Week-2025 began in Gaibandha today with much enthusiasm, marking the occasion through various programmes jointly organised by the district administration and the Department of Fisheries.

This year's theme is 'building sanctuaries makes the country rich with local fish'.

In the morning, a colourful rally was brought out from Independence Square and concluded at Gaibandha Shilpakala Academy after parading the main roads of the town.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of the Shilpakala Academy with District Fisheries Officer Abdur Rahman Rashed in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed addressed the event as the chief guest.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Abdur Razzak, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Abdur Razzak Sarker, and other officials also spoke on the occasion.

Speakers at the discussion stressed the importance of creating a social movement to increase fish production and meet the nutritional demands of the country's growing population.

In his speech, the DC called for wholehearted cooperation from all sections of society to make National Fisheries Week a success. He urged everyone to actively participate in fish cultivation and help establish a social movement in favour of sustainable fisheries development in the district.

A large number of district-level officials, invited guests, local elites, and journalists were present at the event.
