MAGURA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - With the slogan "building sanctuaries makes the country rich with local fish", National Fish Week-2025 has begun in Magura with various programmes on Monday.
The celebration began with a colourful rally that started from the Deputy Commissioner's office premises at 10am and paraded around the administrative compound.
Later, a discussion meeting and award-giving ceremony were held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner Ohidul Islam attended the event as the chief guest, while District Fisheries Officer Tofayel Ahmed presided over the programme.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mirajul Islam, Civil Surgeon of Magura, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, District Livestock Officer, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, and several renowned fish farmers of the district were present as special guests.
Speakers at the discussion highlighted the nutritional value and economic importance of native fish. They emphasized the urgent need for establishing fish sanctuaries in the rivers of Magura to ensure the conservation and sustainable development of local fish species.
On this occasion, three individuals were honoured with awards for their special contributions to fish farming in the district.
Following the discussion, fish fry (Reno pona) were released into the pond at the Deputy Commissioner's residence as part of the observance.
