KHULNA, Aug 15, 2025 (BSS) - Forest guards arrested four fishermen along with fishing instruments for illegally netting fish in the Sundarbans over the last three days.
According to the Forest Department, an operation was carried out in the Karamjal Wildlife Center area under the Chandpai Range of the Eastern Sundarbans and intercepted a dinghy boat at the mouth of Hularbharani canal on Thursday.
At that time, sensing the forest guard's presence, the unidentified fishermen fled into the forest.
The operational team later seized 6 kgs of rotenone powder, three boxes of fresh ice, 500 milliliters of nitro poison, and a behundi fishing net, said an official.
In another operation, a patrol team led by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury spotted fishermen catching fish from a trawler in the Morakhajura-Kaborkhali canal area under Kokilmoni Patrol Outpost in the Eastern Sundarbans on Wednesday afternoon.
The forest guards approached and arrested four fishermen along with the trawler. The arrested fishermen were identified as Zainal, 25, Yusuf, 23, Rahim, 18, and Roni, 10, residents of Haritana village under Patharghata upazila in Barguna.
The Forest guards also seized various species of fish, including shrimp, and fishing nets, during the operation.
Later, the arrested fishermen were sent to jail by the court.
