KHULNA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS)- BCS Fisheries Cadre Association (FCA) has protested the seizure of a fish seed production farm in Khulna’s Gallamari Fish Seed Production Farm and declaring it as a residential hall.
The incident has halted activities of a World Bank-funded project and damaged Bangladesh’s image at the international level, said a statement issued by association convener Dr. Khaled Konok and member secretary Moshior Rahman.
“With deep concern and regret, it has been observed that the office of the farm manager, sub-project director’s office of the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project, the only fish health diagnostic laboratory in the southwestern region, and a training center covering about 10.35 acres of government land have been forcibly occupied by some students of Khulna University,” the statement said.
The signboard of the institution has been removed, and the place has been illegally declared Shaheed Mir Mugdho Hall.
As a result, important operations of the Department of Fisheries at the facility, such as carp and shrimp hatchery work, brood fish management, training in modern technical methods, disease diagnosis and research, production of genetically pure fry and fingerlings, testing of physical and chemical parameters of enclosures and farms in greater Khulna and surrounding districts, and PCR amplification remained stopped, it said adding that officers and employees have been evicted from the premises.
The statement further said that such heinous mobocracy has not only undermined the noble and sacred aims of the July Movement but has also severely disrupted and endangered the existence and operations of an important institution in the country’s productive fisheries sector.
The association has called for immediate legal action against the illegal occupiers, instigators, and those staying at the premises at night for illegal trespass, property damage, and obstruction of the government work.
They also urged for the occupied offices to be freed from the mob to allow it to carry its normal official activities and protect national interests.
