RANGPUR, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - The district and upazila administrations today distributed rice among 940 marooned families of different flood-hit villages under four unions of Gangachara upazila in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal along with Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mahmud Hasan Mridha distributed 10 kg rice among each of the affected families while visiting flood-hit areas in the morning.

The district administration provided the rice allocated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief for distribution among the flood-affected people in the upazila.
 
Later, UNO Mahmud Hasan Mridha, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Syeed Md Sojibul Karim and chairmen and members of local Mornea, Laksmitari, Kolkond and Nohali union parishads continued distributing the rice till this afternoon.
 
Speaking to BSS at the distribution sites, the UNO said that around 940 families living in low-lying char villages remain marooned due to rising waters of the Teesta River in Gangachara upazila.

"The district and upazila administrations are providing 10 kg of rice to each affected family. Boats are also on standby for rescue operations, and temporary shelters have been prepared to ensure safety if the situation worsens," he added.
