40 OMS dealers selected through lottery in Gazipur

GAZIPUR, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - The selection of 40 OMS (Open Market Sale) dealers to ensure the supply of food products at fair prices to the low-income people in the city here has been completed through an open lottery process.

The lottery was held at the Bhawal Conference Room of the District Administration on Thursday at the initiative of the Gazipur District Food Controller's Office.

Local Government Deputy Director Ahmed Hossain Bhuiyan was present at the event as the chief guest.

Gazipur Police Assistant Commissioner Mahbubul Alam, Gazipur District Police Additional Superintendent Mozammel Hossain, Gazipur City Corporation Regional Executive Officer Firoz Al Mamun, Gazipur District Acting Food Controller Shafi Afzal Alam, Gazipur Sadar Upazila Food Controller Nayaranu and District Technical Food Inspector Sohel Ahmed Sufal were present.

There are a total of 69 OMS centers in 57 wards of Gazipur metropolis, where rice and flour are sold at the government-determined prices. Out of these, 28 dealers were previously appointed through a lottery process. 

Dealers were selected for the remaining 40 centers in Thursday's lottery.

A total of 423 applications were submitted in this recruitment process. Out of these, 62 applications were rejected due to errors in the documents. Out of the remaining 361 candidates, 40 people were appointed as dealers for the next five years through a transparent lottery process.

They will sell rice at the government-set price of Taka 30 per kilogram and flour at Taka 24, which will serve as an important aid for the poor and low-income people.
