BHOLA, June 1, 2025 (BSS) - The joint forces in the southern districts officially destroyed drugs seized during February and March 2025 at the Coast Guard South Zone office premises in Bhola today.
Executive Magistrate of Bhola district Arifuzzaman and Assistant Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, Md. Hamimur Rahman were present during the destruction. RAB-08 personnel who participated in the operations also attended the event.
Coast Guard South Zone Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the destruction.
Acting on a tip-off about drug smuggling, the Coast Guard and RAB conducted a joint raid on February 26 in the Zhauabon area near Kuakata Sea Beach in Patuakhali. The operation led to the arrest of 16 yaba traffickers and the seizure of 100,000 yaba pills, he said.
Later, a case was filed at Kalapara Police Station and 20 yaba pills were submitted as evidence.
In another operation on March 26, Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Barishal seized 2 kilograms of hemp from the Kawar Char area near the Kirtankhola River under Bandar Thana.
Following directives from the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Patuakhali and the Metropolitan Magistrate of Barishal, the authorities destroyed 99,980 yaba pills and 2 kg of hemp, valued at an estimated Tk 5.60 crore.
Bangladesh Coast Guard continues to maintain round-the-clock patrols to ensure law and order in coastal and riverside regions. These efforts have contributed significantly to the improvement of security in the areas under its jurisdiction. The Coast Guard has pledged to continue such anti-drug operations in the future.
