COVID-19 cases cross 57,000 mark, infection rate on rise in Ctg


CHATTOGRAM, June 25, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 57,000 mark in Chattogram district where the infection rate continues rising again.
 
 The infection rate today was 26.08 percent, the highest after out breaking of the pandemic.
 
Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases raised to 57,154 as 274 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 976 samples with the daily infection rate of 26.08 percent on Thursday in the district.
 
“The infection rate is showing a quick rising trend again and recovery rate is also gradually reducing in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.
 
The health experts of Chattogram urged city dwellers to strictly follow health rules and use masks.
 
Among the newly detected patients, 160 are from Chattogram city and 114 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
 
With the five deaths on Thursday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 671, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said.
 
Among the reported fatalities, 466 were the residents of the port city and the rest 205 were from different upazilas of the district, he said.
 
The civil surgeon told BSS that among the total infected persons, 44,787 are the residents of the port city and the rest 12,367 are residents of different upazilas of the district.
 
“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 48,674 in  Chattogram district with the recovery of 136 more patients on Thursday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 85.16.
 
A total of 6381 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
