NBR cancels disciplinary penalties against 20 officials

DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has cancelled disciplinary penalties imposed on 20 of its officials in connection with the NBR reform movement and related activities.

Several other officials have also been relieved of charges in departmental cases following appeals submitted to the President.

According to separate orders issued after the appeals, the decisions to cancel the penalties and relieve the officials of departmental liabilities were approved following the President’s decision on their appeals. The orders were signed by the NBR Chairman.

Among the officials whose penalties were waived are NBR Second Secretary (Deputy Commissioner) Md Shahadat Jamil, Revenue Officer of a Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Shafiul Bashar, Revenue Officer of Dhaka North Commissionerate Sabuj Mia and Deputy Commissioner of the Customs Valuation and Internal Audit Commissionerate, Khulna, Mohammad Saidul Islam.

The list also includes Customs Bond Commissionerate, Chattogram Commissioner (current charge) Md Zakir Hossain, Joint Commissioner Md Sanwarul Kabir, Additional Commissioner of Gazipur Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Sadhan Kumar Kundu, Additional Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House A.A.M. Amimul Ehsan Khan and Additional Commissioner of Dhaka West Sifat-e-Maryam. 

Their minor penalties were cancelled and they were relieved of the charges.

Additional Commissioner of the Directorate of Audit, Intelligence and Investigation (VAT), Dhaka, Hassan Mohammad Tarek Rikabdar, is also among those granted relief.

Among the income tax officials, the beneficiaries include Joint Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-Mymensingh Monalisa Shahreen Susmita, Joint Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-Jashore Md Mamun Mia, Additional Tax Commissioner (current charge) of Tax Zone-Gazipur Chand Sultana Chowdhurani, Additional Tax Commissioner (current charge) of Tax Zone-22, Dhaka Sultana Habib, Additional Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-Jashore Murad Ahmed, Joint Tax Commissioner Mohammad Morshed Uddin Khan and Joint Tax Commissioner of the e-Tax Management Unit, Dhaka, Masuma Khatun.

Besides, Deputy Tax Commissioner of Khulna Md Zillur Rahman, Deputy Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-21, Dhaka Imam Tawhid Hasan Shakil and Additional Tax Commissioner of Tax Zone-Dinajpur Mirza Ashik Rana have also had their minor penalties cancelled and been relieved of departmental case liabilities.

Several NBR officials faced departmental proceedings in 2025 in connection with the NBR reform movement and related programmes. Departmental cases and disciplinary measures were initiated against them over allegations of participating in the movement, involvement in programmes and violations of service discipline and conduct rules.

As punishment, their pay scales had been reduced by two to three grades.

Later, some of the penalised officials appealed to the President. Following the President’s acceptance of their appeals, the relevant disciplinary penalties were cancelled and several officials were relieved of liabilities in the departmental cases.
