DHAKA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb today stressed the need for policy support to reduce the country's dependence on imported digital devices.

"Real success will come if the country can move toward local production by reducing import dependency on various digital devices," he said.

The CA's special assistant made the remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the three-day Digital Device and Innovation Expo-2026, held at Hotel InterContinental in the capital.

The expo was jointly organized by the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), and the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS).

Taiyeb said that successful initiatives have already been taken in principle to reduce duties in the battery industry and mobile phone production. He added that, at the same time, the government and business community must work together to facilitate local computer manufacturing.

Calling upon business leaders, the CA's special assistant said the government would be able to take more resilient and effective policy decisions if entrepreneurs could demonstrate how policy support contributes to increased government revenue.

Highlighting the vast potential of the domestic digital device market, he said smartphone penetration in the country stands at 45 percent, laptop usage at 10 percent, while tablet usage is only between 2 and 5 percent.

"There is significant scope to further expand this market, particularly among the youth of the country," he added.
