DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and
Exporters Association (BGMEA) has achieved another milestone in advancing
transparency, accountability and responsible growth in the country's
readymade garment (RMG) sector by officially publishing its second
Sustainability Report 2023 in line with global standards.
Following the first sustainability report released in 2020, the second
edition stands as a strong documentary evidence of Bangladesh's apparel
sector's progress towards sustainable development.
The report was formally unveiled yesterday at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara by
BGMEA Acting President Selim Rahman.
BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Md Rezwan Selim,
Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Vice President Md Shehab Udduza
Chowdhury, Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Mohammad Abdus Salam, Sheikh
Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz, Mohammad Sohel, and Chairman of BGMEA Standing
Committee on Sustainable Energy Saifur Rahman (Shapu) were present, among
others, at the event.
Like the first edition, the second sustainability report has been prepared in
accordance with the globally recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
Framework, reflecting the real position and ongoing transformation of
Bangladesh's garment industry in the global market, said a press release here
today.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Acting President Selim Rahman said the
journey of transparency initiated through the first report in 2020 has been
further strengthened by the second edition.
"The apparel industry of Bangladesh is not limited to garment manufacturing
alone; it is, rather, a key driver of significant social and economic
transformation. This report is a documentary testament to our long-term goals
and sustainable business practices, reflecting our firm commitment to
building a resilient and responsible industry in the future," he added.
Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan said that the BGMEA initiative would
help showcase the industry's actual achievements on the global stage. He also
expressed gratitude to the member factories that extended cooperation by
providing necessary data.
It was mentioned that the German development agency GIZ provided financial
support for the publication, while Sassnex Limited contributed technical
expertise to ensure quality. The report has been published by BGMEA's
Responsible Business Hub (RBH).
The BGMEA believes that through such continuous sustainability reporting,
prevailing negative perceptions about the garment industry will be dispelled,
enabling Bangladesh to further strengthen its position in the global market
as a more reliable, transparent and resilient sourcing destination.
