Narsingdi, 10 June 2025 (BSS) - Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Narsingdi have extended financial assistance to Tanvir Molla Niloy, who lost his left eye after being shot by police during the student-led anti-discrimination protest.
On Tuesday afternoon, acting under the directive of BNP Standing Committee member and former Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, senior joint secretary of Palash Upazila BNP, Bahauddin Bhuiyan Milton, handed over a cash donation to Niloy at his residence in Dakshin Deora village of Charsindur Union under Palash Upazila.
Additionally, Palash Upazila BNP has taken full responsibility for Niloy’s advanced medical treatment. Palash Upazila BNP Vice President Awlad Hossain Jony, Organizing Secretary Abu Bakkar, Member Secretary of Upazila Jubo Dal Bakhtiar Hossain, Convener of Ghorashal City Chhatra Dal Amanullah Aman, and Member Secretary Ariful Islam Arif were present at the occasion, among other.
Niloy, an HSC graduate from Palash Industrial University College, had joined an anti-discrimination protest rally in the afternoon of July 18 in the Bhelanagar area of Narsingdi. As the rally proceeded, police reportedly opened indiscriminate fire on the demonstrators.
During the incident, Shahid Tahmid Bhuiyan, a ninth-grade student of NKM High School and Homes in Narsingdi, was fatally shot and collapsed on the spot. While attempting to rescue him, Tanvir Molla Niloy was struck in the left eye by multiple rubber bullets fired by the police. He was taken by fellow students to the 100-bed hospital in Narsingdi district. Later, his father, informed by the students, took Niloy home in the evening after finding him in a critical condition at the hospital.
Despite seeking treatment at various hospitals, Niloy’s family could not afford the cost of advanced care, ultimately resulting in the complete loss of his left eye.
Speaking to journalists, Bahauddin Bhuiyan Milton said, “As soon as Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, member of BNP’s Standing Committee and former minister, learned that one of the front-line fighters of the anti-discrimination student movement was losing his vision due to a lack of proper treatment, he immediately instructed Palash Upazila BNP to extend financial assistance and ensure arrangements for his advanced treatment. In response, Palash Upazila BNP has taken full responsibility for Niloy’s medical care and provided necessary financial support.”
