DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz made an impressive debut in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) by claiming three wickets as his side Guyana Amazon Warriors cruised to a four-wicket victory over St Lucia Kings Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Miraz, who joined Guyana as a replacement for Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi, finished with 3-13 from four overs as the Kings were bowled out for 119. Guyana raced to the victory in 18.3 overs, scoring 122-6.

The Bangladesh spinner struck in his first over and later removed John Campbell in the seventh over. He added the wickets of Kemal Savory and Charith Asalanka in his third over to cap an excellent debut.

Savory was given out leg before wicket, although a review would have overturned the decision after replays showed the delivery would have missed the stumps.

Miraz's performance was complemented by Guyana captain Imran Tahir, who claimed a remarkable 5-17 in four overs. The pair's spin attack dismantled the St Lucia batting lineup and restricted the Kings to a modest total.

Guyana reached the target in 18.3 overs after losing six wickets. Miraz, however, was dismissed for one run in the chase.

Tahir was named Player of the Match but praised Miraz after the game, saying the team had faced a challenge replacing Nabi, one of Guyana's leading performers this season.

"We had Nabi and obviously, his standards were really, really high. You know, he's been our best bowler," Tahir said after the match. "But look, Miraz came and I think he felt, to be honest with you, nothing, and then he bowled really, really well. I think just exactly how we were thinking."

He also dubbed Miraz as world class bowler and hoped that he would continue in same vein. 

"So it's really nice to have him. He's a world-class bowler and has been performing all over the world internationally. So I'm very excited, obviously, to bowl with him and all the other guys around him."

Nabi, Guyana's leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets in seven matches, left the CPL to join Afghanistan's T20 series against India. Miraz joined Guyana with eight matches remaining in the tournament.
