DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh achieved a remarkable success at the World's Longest Swimming Competition 2026, held in Murshidabad, India by winning a total of four medals.

In the competition, they secured one gold, two silver and one bronze to take the medal number to four, Bangladesh Swimming Federation said in a press release today.

Bangladesh Army swimmer Faisal Ahmed clinched the gold medal in the men's 19-kilometre event by delivering an impressive performance.

In the women's 19-kilometre event, Sonia Akter of the Bangladesh Navy won the silver medal.

Bangladesh also secured two medals in the grueling men's 81-kilometre event. Palash Chowdhury of the Bangladesh Navy took silver, while Nurul Islam of the Bangladesh Army won bronze.

Swimmers from different countries had taken part in the competition featuring three events - men's 19km, women's 19km and men's 81km.

A total of 28 swimmers competed in the 81km event, while 36 participated in the men's 19km and 15 in the women's 19km event.

Bangladesh fielded nine swimmers in the competition, with six competing in the 19km events and three in the 81km race.

The four-medal haul is considered a significant achievement for Bangladesh in international long distance swimming, particularly the two medals won in the demanding 81-km event.

The Bangladesh Swimming Federation congratulated the medal-winning swimmers, as well as all participating swimmers, coaches and officials, and expressed hope that the country's swimmers will achieve further success on the international stage.
