DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh are out to bolster their chances of reaching the semifinals of the Women's Asia Cup as they take on Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium today.

The match is set to begin at 8:30pm Bangladesh time.

A victory in this match would put Nigar Sultana Joty-led Bangladesh side in a strong position to finish top of the group.

Bangladesh began their campaign with a 71-run victory over Indonesia, defending a modest total of 129. 

Their bowlers delivered an impressive performance despite the low score, while the match also gave the team valuable experience of the Dubai conditions.

Bangladesh set their sights on reaching the final before the tournament and are keen to finish as group champions to avoid India in the semifinals.

"It will be a big advantage for us if we can win against Sri Lanka. Then we will move much closer to the semifinals and our goal," Bangladesh opener Juairiya Ferdous said in a video message sent by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Juairiya, who scored eight off seven balls against Indonesia, said the team learnt about the pitch and conditions from their opening match.

"We played our first match against Indonesia and, Alhamdulillah, we won very well. We have gained a good understanding of the ground conditions and how the wicket behaves," she said.

The opener also wants to make better use of the power play and contribute a substantial innings against Sri Lanka.

"Everyone will try their best to fulfill their respective responsibilities. Of course, we will try to win. Personally, as an opener, my target will be to make the most of the power play and play a big innings because this match is very important for us," she added.
