DHAKA, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS)- Opener Sk Jarif Siyam smashed a scintillating 99 as Bangladesh Under-19 made a sensational start to the Game Development (GD) Trophy with a thumping 246-run victory over Bangladesh Under-17 team at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

The tournament that was inducted for the first time to unearth the next generation talents saw Siyam hogged the limelight with emphatic fashion despite missing the well-deserved century.

Nonetheless, his knock powered the side to a mammoth 329-8 after the match was reduced to 43-over-affair following an early morning rain.

The Under-17, however, couldn't produce any resistance, only managing 83 before being all out on 29.1 overs.

Siyam went after the bowlers right from the words go after Under-19 captain Farid Hasan opted to bat first.

His opening partner Abdullah Muhi was out dismissed for 11 but the opening partnership produced 43, thanks to Siyam pyro-technique.

No.3 Adrito Ghosh was also out for 5, leaving the side 59-2.

Siyam and Ahsan Ali Mumin shared 141-run for the third wicket with the opener dominating the partnership, sending the bowlers into the receiving end.

In the process, Siyam brought up his half-century from 39 balls, hitting six fours. However, after completing the fifty, he shifted the gear in ultra-aggressive fashion to bring more agony for the Under-17 bowlers.

As he approached toward the three-figure mark, a misunderstanding between him and Mumin caused his run-out dismissal, leaving him stranded on nervous 99.

He eventually played just 76 balls and smacked 12 fours and three sixes.

Soon after Mumin was dismissed for 67. However, skipper Farid's 62 helped the side finish on high, setting a gigantic target for Under-17 batters.

The pressure of huge chase caused a mental breakdown for the young batters and they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Only three batters could reach double digits with Imran Bhuiyan making highest 24.

Shakil Khan was the standout bowler for Under-19 with 3-8 while Atiqur Rahman and Tafiul Alam took two wickets apiece.

After scoring 99, Siyam also picked up a wicket for just 10 runs with his off-spin to cap off a successful game for him,

He was adjudged man of the match later for his all-round performance.
