DHAKA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz stressed replicating the performance as his side gear up for second and final Test in Mackay, starting on August 22.
After completing a dominating nine-wicket victory in the first Test inside four days, Bangladesh had spent a day roaming around the Darwin city today, what could have been the fifth and final day of the Test.
The team, however, will fly for Mackay tomorrow for the second Test and Miraz said they need to assess the conditions carefully like they did in the first.
Mackay will hosts its first ever Test with the match between Bangladesh and Australia and so for the hosts, the pitch also will be unfamiliar.
"Need to think of how to perform in these conditions," Miraz said. "We batted well and bowled well at the right times (in the first Test)."
Hasan Mahmud took 6-55 in the first innings, the first ever five-wicket haul by a Bangladeshi bowler on Australian soil while opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim also etched his name into the record book by becoming first ever batter of Bangladesh to hit a century Down Under.
Like the duo, Miraz was also standout-firstly scoring 65 runs in the first innings to help Bangladesh post 426 in reply to Australia's 198 and thus helping the side gain a huge 228-run lead. He then snared 5-65 in the second innings to bowl out Australia for 284, leaving Bangladesh a target of only 57 for victory.
Bangladesh eased past the target with the loss of just one wicket to seal a nine-wicket victory.
"The way Tanzid Tamim batted in the first innings and Shanto and Mominul supported them very well. Thereafter the excellent partnership with the lower order helped me," Miraz said.
"If they (lower order batters) got out, I couldn't have scored my runs. They were there, so that's why I could. I told them 'do not think about who is bowling at you."
Citing the result as a proud moment for the country, he said, "Belief, character and contributions from across the team were crucial to their impressive victory over Australia."
Miraz praised Bangladesh's allround performance and said the team arrived with a clear message that they had to believe they could beat a world-class Australian side.
"We had just one message that we have to believe, otherwise it's not possible," he remarked.
Mehidy also heaped praise on Najmul Hossain Shanto's leadership, saying the captain had made good decisions at the right moments.
"He is a very good captain, makes good decisions at the right time. Shanto was standout as a captain. He also made a valuable 84 runs in the first innings," he added.
He pointed to Hasan Mahmud's six-wicket haul in the first innings and the spinners' six wickets in the second as key factors in Bangladesh's success.
"The footmarks helped," Miraz said of the conditions that assisted the spinners.
Miraz also scored a 130 runs in the practice match even though Bangladesh lost the game after being all out for just 54 in the second innings.
He said his century in the tour match had helped build confidence ahead of the Test.
"The century in the practice match, no doubt, enhanced my confidence to bat well here," he said, adding that the team had shown its character after being away from Australia for a long time.
Back home, Mehidy said, the victory had generated immense pride.
"I think everybody is happy. They are very proud. It's a proud moment," he said, thanking the supporters who had traveled to watch Bangladesh and backed the team throughout the match.
