Dhaka, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has increased the salaries of cleaning staff at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium by 50 percent, fulfilling a commitment made by BCB President Tamim Iqbal during his tenure as a member of the board's ad hoc committee.
The decision was announced today by BCB Director Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed in a Facebook post, where he described the salary hike as part of the board's broader commitment to the welfare of all individuals involved in Bangladesh cricket.
"Today, I am happy to announce a raise in the salaries of the cleaning staff at Mirpur Cricket Stadium, a part of the commitment from our President Tamim Iqbal when we came on board as ad hoc members to look out for not just our cricketers, but the whole team that help ensure that cricket rolls onto the field," Ibrahim wrote in his facebook post today.
"Cricket is not just about the players wearing the national jersey. Behind every match, every training session, and every successful event is a dedicated team whose efforts often go unnoticed," the post added.
He highlighted the role of cleaners in maintaining a clean and professional environment at the stadium, ensuring a quality experience for players, officials and spectators alike.
"Our cleaning staff work hard every day to keep the facilities clean, maintain professional standards, and make sure that players, officials, and spectators enjoy a top-notch experience. As part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, we have a duty to not only develop cricketers but also to protect the dignity and livelihoods of everyone who supports the game," he clarified.
The BCB director said the board has remained committed to turning its promises into action since the formation of the ad hoc committee, citing governance reforms, infrastructure development, player development and staff welfare initiatives as key priorities.
"Fair pay is not a privilege; it is a recognition of hard work, commitment, and respect. When staff can provide for their families more securely, they become stronger allies in our shared goal to improve Bangladesh cricket," the post further said.
"From the start of the ad hoc Committee's time until now, we have stayed dedicated to keeping our promises. Whether it involves governance, infrastructure, player development, or staff welfare, our aim has been to turn promises into real action."
