DHAKA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - Embracing the national slogan, "When Sports
becomes a profession, every family get security," the Dhaka District Sports
Office today (Thursday) organized a sports competition and fun festival for
children with special needs.
The day-long event was officially inaugurated in the morning at the SWID
Bangladesh premise under the annual sports programme 2025-26 of the Dhaka
District Sports Office.
The festival featured a variety of sports and recreational activities
tailored for children with special needs, including table tennis, badminton,
boys' sprint races, musical ball-passing games, dance performances, and
cultural activities. The programme provided participants with an inclusive
platform to showcase their abilities while promoting confidence, teamwork,
and enjoyment through sports.
The opening ceremony was graced by legendary athlete, Guinness World Records
holder, and Independence Award recipient Zobera Rahman Linu as the guest of
honour.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Md. Shahnewaz Chowdhury, president of
SWID Bangladesh. Special guests included Saleh Mohammad, vice president of
SWID Bangladesh, and Md. Mahbubul Munir, secretary general of the
organization.
Delivering the welcome address, Dhaka district sports officer Suman Kumar
Mitra said: "This sports competition and fun festival has been organized
under the annual sports programme of the department of sports.
Through events such as table tennis, badminton, and sprint races, the
programme provides children with special needs a unique opportunity to
discover, develop, and showcase their hidden sporting talents."
At the conclusion of the festival, prizes were distributed among the winners'
of the various competitions.
