DHAKA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - An inter-ministerial coordination meeting was
held today (Thursday) at the conference room of the Ministry of Youth and
Sports to ensure adequate sports grounds for the country's young generation
in all metropolitan cities as well as rural communities.
The meeting was chaired by the State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul
Haque.
The meeting placed special emphasis on coordinated initiatives among various
government ministries to preserve and develop existing sports grounds, as
well as establish new ones.
The objective is to encourage young people to engage in sports, steering them
away from drug abuse and excessive mobile phone use, while fostering a
healthy, active, and resilient generation.
During the meeting, State Minister Md. Aminul Haque directed the relevant
authorities to prepare a comprehensive inventory of vacant fields, supported
by detailed data, across all districts and upazilas of the country.
He instructed that the list be submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports
by 30 June.
"We'll begin the development of sports grounds on a priority basis and within
the shortest possible time," the State Minister said. "To create greater
opportunities for young people to participate in sports, all concerned must
work with the utmost sincerity and avoid unnecessary bureaucratic delays."
Among those present at the meeting were A.S.M. Saleh Ahmed, Senior Secretary
of the Ministry of Land, Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of
Housing and Public Works; Md. Fahimul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of
Railways; Dr. AKM. Shahabuddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources
and Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Besides, Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Secretary of the Road Transport and
Highways Division; Md. Daud Mia, NDC, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah
Education Division; and Mosa. Ferdousi Begum, Chairman of the National
Housing Authority. Chief Executive Officers of the Dhaka North City
Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation, along with senior officials
from the relevant ministries, also participated in the meeting.
They shared valuable recommendations and reaffirmed their commitment to
ensuring a conducive sporting environment for the young in every region of
Bangladesh.
