KHULNA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) – National Parliament Whip and lawmaker of Khulna-3 constituency Rokibul Islam Bakul has said there is no alternative to sports in protecting the younger generation from drugs, terrorism and other forms of delinquency.
He made the remarks while addressing the prize-giving ceremony of the 122nd annual sports competition of the historic Khalishpur Secondary School in Khulna.
The Whip, a former student of the institution, attended the function as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners at the school ground on Saturday evening.
Addressing students, teachers and guardians, Bakul said he was delighted to be part of such a vibrant and joyful event.
“As a Whip, I firmly believe that complete education cannot be achieved by remaining confined to textbooks alone. Sports play a vital role in building a healthy body and a sound mind,” he said.
He noted that sports not only promote physical fitness but also teach discipline, resilience in the face of challenges, teamwork and leadership qualities among students.
Highlighting the government's commitment to youth development, Bakul said the present government is sincerely working to promote sports and create opportunities for young people.
“Today’s youth are the future skilled workforce of Bangladesh. I expect you to lead the nation in every sector through your talent, intellect and physical capability,” he added.
The Whip also thanked the school’s headmaster, teachers and members of the sports committee for organizing the event in a disciplined and successful manner.
He assured continued support from his side for the infrastructural development of educational institutions and the expansion of facilities for students.
Headmaster Md. Shahidul Islam presided over the function.
Among others, former Ward-13 commissioner Sheikh Sahinul Islam Pakhi, District Education Officer SM Sayedur Rahman and former school president M.D. Kamal Uddin Ahmed attended the programme as special guests.
