Sajid emerges as champion

DHAKA, June 12, 2026 (BSS)- FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid of Bangladesh Ansar emerged as the champion in the Leonine Chess Club Invitational FIDE Rating Chess Tournament concluded today.

FM Sakline secured the title by scoring 7 points from 9 matches. IM Mohammad Minhaj Uddin of the Bangladesh Navy also finished with 7 points but had to settle for the runner-up position.

Since FM Sakline and IM Minhaz both players had equal points, the final standings were determined through the tie-break system. FM Sakline claimed the championship due to having more victories, while Minhaz finished second with one fewer win.

IM Monon Reza Neer of the Bangladesh Navy secured third place with 6.5 points, FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Bangladesh Ansar finished fourth with 6 points.

In the day’s final round matches, IM Minhaz defeated FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman of Manha's Castle, while FM Tahsin overcame Candidate Master Sohel Chowdhury of Manha's Castle. FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed of the Bangladesh Navy defeated Tashriq Saihan Shan of Bangladesh Police Chess Club.

Meanwhile, FM Sakline split point with IM Neer, and IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Bangladesh Police Chess Club shared the point with FM Khandaker Aminul Islam of the Bangladesh Navy.
 
Following the conclusion of the tournament, Grandmaster Niaz Morshed attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.

Leonine Chess Club General Secretary Monzur Hossain Zimmu, International Arbiter Md. Haroon Or Rashid, and Tournament Organizer Tasmin Sultana Labnnno were present at the closing ceremony.

A total of 10 players participated in the event, which was conducted in a round-robin league format. The tournament offered a total prize fund of Taka 40,000.
