DHAKA, June 6, 2026 (BSS) - Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited maintained their march toward the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) title with expected victories in the ninth round of the competition.
Mohammedan are firmly at the top of the table with 16 points by winning eight matches out of nine, while reigning champions Abahani stayed close behind on 14 points as they registered seven victories from same number of matches.
Both sides also boast impressive net run rates, with Mohammedan on 2.729 and Abahani on 2.094.
If both teams win their respective matches in the 10th round, the title race could effectively be decided when the two traditional rivals meet in the 11th round.
Five matches were completed on the reserve day after rain disrupted play on Friday.
For Mohammedan, Towhid Hridoy continued his rich vein of form by striking his second consecutive century, while veteran Mushfiqur Rahim also reached three figures in a dominant batting display against Gazi Group Cricketers.
Hridoy blasted 101 off 66 balls and Mushfiqur smashed 100 off just 55 deliveries as Mohammedan piled up 333-4. During the innings, Mushfiqur became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to reach 12,000 List A runs and registered the 16th century of his List A career.
After a rain interruption, Gazi Group were set a revised target of 335 in 42 overs. Sabbir Hossain Sikder fought back with a brilliant 104, but Mohammedan eventually secured a 47-run victory.
Abahani also earned an important win over Legends of Rupganj. The match was shaped by Irfan Shukkur's outstanding 119-run knock, which guided Rupganj to 275.
Rain later reduced Abahani's chase to 163 runs in 20 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Abahani reached the target with three wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.
National pacer Mostafizur Rahman, making his first appearance for Abahani this season, played a decisive role by claiming 4-30 to set up the victory.
Elsewhere, Prime Bank Cricket Club beat Rupganj Tigers by 16 runs, Bashundhara Strikers defeated Dhaka Leopards by 31 runs, and Gulshan Cricket Club overcame City Club by 17 runs.
