Thomas Dooley appointed Bangladesh football team head coach

DHAKA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) officially announced Thomas Dooley as the new head coach of the Bangladesh national football team shortly after his arrival in Dhaka today.

The federation confirmed the appointment through its official Facebook page and also issued a media release.

Although Dooley's appointment had been widely anticipated, the BFF refrained from making any formal announcement before his arrival in the country. The federation informed the public officially only after he reached Dhaka.

We look forward to appointing German-American tactician Thomas Dooley as the new head coach of the Bangladesh men's national team, BFF said in the release.

With 43 years of elite global football experience, he played for the USA national team, including in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and served as captain during the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He later worked as assistant coach of the US national team under Jurgen Klinsmann from 2011 to 2014.

Coach Dooley is a specialist in building teams from the ground up and understands the unique challenges and incredible passion of Asian football. He guided the Philippines national football team to a historic unbeaten AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign and their highest-ever FIFA ranking.

Most recently, he served as head coach of the Guyana national football team and won all four matches under his charge.

He now takes on the challenge of transforming Bangladesh national team into a winning side by building on the potential of our young players.

The appointment marks a significant move by the BFF as Bangladesh looks to strengthen its football program under an experienced international coach.
